Adults A-D

(1+ Yrs.)

When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters.

8/5/25 Intake: lab/terrier mix, 33 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW-, stray. Andy was brought in as a stray by animal control from Andy Dr in Hartsville after being dumped at an abandoned house. He is heartworm negative.

Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: My name is Andy, and I'm ready to find my forever home. I'm a sweet, energetic, 1 year old, 34lb heart worm negative lab/terrier mix. I recently had an exciting Paws Around the Pee Dee adventure getting to explore a new world. I loved my car ride and got to walk around Hartsville, where I made lots of new friends and got to smell all the wonderful things life has to offer. I loved giving kisses and snuggling, and I got to hang out with kids! The family who took me out for the day had a hard time bringing me back to the shelter, but I'm learning new things every day and would thrive in a home that will give me plenty of love, exercise, and opportunities to sniff out new adventures. Having another doggy friend would be awesome. If you're looking for an energetic and loving companion to explore the world with, ask for me, Andy.

Field Trip Nov 1, 2025: Andy is so cute and a great size at 34lbs. He rides good in the car and walks on leash. He is energetic and playful at 1 year young but also calms nicely to rest in the shade. He loves meeting everyone and is good with kids and other dogs. He likes treats and is treat motivated for training. He aims to please his person! He's smart, curious, and sweet. He's heartworm negative too. It was hard to return him to the humane society. Go adopt him! He's ready for his family.

She is a friend to everyone.” SUPERSTAR! She is WONDERFUL. Arabella was found as a pregnant stray and a kind person took her into their home where she eventually birthed 12 (twelve) puppies. Arabella got along great with the resident small dog and cats. She was housebroken and slept in bed with the Good Samaritan or her doggy bed in the room. Arabella and her puppies were surrendered to the shelter in late April and moved to the Bridge Facility where Arabella raised her beautiful family. All her puppies have found homes; now it’s Arabella’s turn. She’s a youngster herself, 1 year 3 months old, 47lbs, heart worm positive terrier mix. She Located in Hartsville SC. 7/27/23 Intake: terrier/lab mix, 47.3 lbs, 1 yr old, female, HW+, stray. Arya was brought in as a stray by a community member from Mechanicsville Hwy in Darlington. She is heartworm positive.

More about Arya Nov 26, 2025: Arya is a lovable dog who is in search of her forever home. She is a 47 lb female American Staffordshire Terrier and Lab Mix with a stunning deep chocolate coat that appears almost black, earning her the affectionate nickname "Brown Sugar" from her foster dad. Arya was brought to the DCHS with an injured leg. Sadly, due to overcrowding and concerns about behavior issues, Arya found herself on a euthanasia list. However, fate intervened when her foster mom heard about her situation and immediately visited Arya at the shelter. In a heartwarming moment, Arya climbed into her lap and gave her one of her signature hugs. Touched by this sweet and affectionate gesture, her foster mom decided to take a leap of faith and brought Arya home instead. Arya quickly adapted to her foster family, consisting of eight other dogs, including one with a neurological disorder. Her gentle and friendly nature allowed her to seamlessly integrate into the pack, getting along well with every member. Arya's foster family describes her as loving, resilient, and a true joy to be around. Arya's personality is as delightful as her appearance. She is a playful and energetic dog who loves nothing more than engaging in fun activities. Whether it's a game of fetch, going for a long walk, or exploring the outdoors, Arya is always up for an adventure. Her injured leg has healed completely, leaving only a few very small scars, as she continues to show her zest for life. She showers her foster family with love, giving them her signature hugs that melt hearts. She thrives on human companionship and cherishes any opportunity to be near her loved ones. Whether it's snuggling on the couch, receiving belly rubs, or simply being by your side, Arya is happiest when she can shower her humans with affection. Being an eager-to-please dog, Arya is quick to learn and follows commands with enthusiasm. She quickly adapted to crate training and learned basic commands. She is a smart girl who is eager to please and would thrive with an owner who is willing to provide consistent training and positive reinforcement. With her combination of intelligence and willingness to learn, Arya could excel in various activities such as obedience training or agility. Overall, Arya's personality shines through her playful nature, affectionate demeanor, and her eagerness to please. If you're looking for a loyal and affectionate companion, Arya might just be the perfect match for you. Give this amazing dog a chance, and she will reward you with endless love and companionship.

Blazer

8/14/25 Intake: lab mix, 50 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW-, stray. Blazer was brought in as a stray by animal control from Field Pond Road in Darlington. He is heartworm negative.

Foster Update Sep 23, 2025: Yes, we know—every dog is described as "sweet." But with Blazer, it’s not just true—it’s his entire personality. Blazer came to us as a stray, carrying more than just scars—he had serious wounds on his back that needed urgent care. Through it all, he never stopped wagging his tail. No complaints. No fear. Just grateful brown eyes and a heart that wanted nothing more than to be loved. Even when in pain, Blazer was saying “thank you.” Now fully recovered (with some cool scars that only add to his character), Blazer is ready for his forever family. He’s just over a year old, about 50 pounds, and thinks he’s the perfect size for your lap. (He is not, but don’t tell him.) He’s the definition of eager-to-please. He came to us with some manners already and is doing great on a leash—though squirrels still test his resolve. Blazer is house-trained, crate-trained (he tucks himself in at night!), neutered, heartworm negative, and 100% treat-motivated. His temperament? In a word: chill. This gentle boy lets a 10-pound poodle share his food bowl. He’s thrilled to see our 8-year-old granddaughter but may be a bit too boisterous for toddlers—he’s got a big heart and a bigger body.

What will you get if you adopt Blazer? A soft-eyed, big baby who looks at you like you’re the center of his universe—and who’ll spend his life trying to prove it. Adopt Blazer if you’re ready for a lifetime of love, loyalty, and (yes) over-the-top sweetness.

Blythe aka Block - URGENT DUE TO TIME AT SHELTER

7/29/25 Intake: terrier mix, 44 lbs, 4 yrs old, female, HW+, stray. Block was brought in as a stray by Hartsville Police Dept. from Poole St in Hartsville. She is heartworm positive.

Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: MEET BLYTHE…a 4 year old, 57lb, heart worm positive terrier mix. This low rider is dog friendly, ADORES KIDS, and is eager for a family of her own. Blythe had a great time during her Paws Around the Pee Dee field trip with a family! Blythe’s handlers said “She is an absolutely incredible dog, like truly. She would truly do so good with kids. She wouldn't leave until all of the kids were in front of her. She is going to make someone incredibly happy.” Blythe needed to be carried near the end of her field trip, tired from all the excitement and kiddo interaction. She needs a little lift in and out of the car with those cute short legs, but once she's in, she rides like a dream! She just needs a quick run to burn off that initial excitement, then she's a good leash walker. Volunteers mention Blythe gives out great hugs, takes treats gently, and is such a sweet girl. If you’re looking for a cuddly couch potato ask for Blythe! She will make an awesome companion. Located in Hartsville SC ask for her today!

My favorite things in the world are butt scratches, belly rubs, and being close to my favorite humans. I’m the kind of dog who bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be your loyal companion. I do my very best when I can have my people all to myself, so I’m looking for a home where I can be the only dog. I promise it’s not because I don’t like others—it’s just that I feel happiest, safest, and most confident when I don’t have to share my space or attention. In return, I’ll give you all the cuddles, tail wags, and unconditional love you could ever ask for. Bubba would thrive with an active family…whether that means hiking, strolling through the neighborhood, playing in the yard, or splashing in a kiddie pool. (Bonus points if you have a pool or lake nearby, he loves the water!) On his Paws Around the PeeDee outing, Bubba showed just how friendly and fun-loving he is. Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: During his Paws Around the Pee Dee adventure and a stop at Wild Heart Brewing, he was well behaved and a bit curious. He settled down nicely and did very well with food and being fed around Rufus with no sign of food aggression. Buddy does ride in the car but does try to occasionally get in the front seat and ride shot gun. A dog hammock in the back seat or a doggy seat belt should help keep Buddy in the back. Buddy enjoys playing with toys and is ready to find a home!

He's the more active and confident one between himself and his brother Rufus, happy to lead the way. He listens well. Does well in the crate and will go to the crate on his own when in the house. Will self-entertain with a bone or a toy, happily squeaking a song in his crate. So far he has not been a jumper or tried to get on the furniture. Gets very excited at dinner time or when treats come out.”  Danny needs some encouragement to walk on a leash but is learning.  He loves to be petted and will try to lick you hands to return your love and affection.  Such a sweet boy, who can give him the home he deserves?

Delight

9/23/25 Intake: terrier/lab mix, 50.6 lbs, 2 yrs old, female, HW-, stray. Delight was brought in as a stray by Hartsville Police Dept. from Marlboro Ave in Hartsville. She is heartworm negative.

Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: DELIGHT had a wonderful time on her Paws Around the Pee Dee adventure in Hartsville. The joy was in her smile, the rolls in the grass, and even sitting on her buddy's foot to say thank you for getting me out of the shelter for a bit. She was described as sweet and fun with a good temperament. She met everyone politely from people to dogs to children. It indeed was a delightful day!

More about Delight Oct 28, 2025: Hi, I'm Delight! I’m a 2 year old 47lb heart worm negative terrier/lab mix, and I’m looking for my forever home! My name fits me perfectly, because I'm ready to bring delight and fun into your life! I had the best time out during the Paws Around the Pee Dee Trick or Treat event. My handlers said I’m “sweet, fun, and have a good temperament.” I rode nicely in the car, got to play in the grass, and enjoyed yummy treats! My leash skills are pretty good, and I’m little bit of “everything” energy wise…I can keep up when it's playtime and am happy to cuddle up when it's time to relax. I'm a real social butterfly! I do really well around people, so if you like to have people over, I'd be happy to be the star of the party. I'm good with other dogs, but I prefer to hang out with them, I’m not into rough and rowdy play. All I'm missing is a loving family. Could you be the one to give me my forever home? Ask for me today, Delight, located in Hartsville SC.

She follows me around, sniffs my hands, and comes into my dogroom/sunroom on her own. She has never snapped or nipped due to fear. She is now ready for another foster to take her to the next stage. She needs a new foster who can take her the next step--leash walking. She has already been spayed.

Wow…I loved the treats and saw other dogs and cats while visiting. I have pretty good leash skills and my kiddo friend was my handler, I loved walking. I am a good snuggler, enjoy kisses, loved riding in the car, and my volunteer handlers for the day said I’m “sweet, calm, and happy.”
