When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters.

Arabella - URGENT DUE TO TIME AT SHELTER - (trial adoption)
4/24/25 Intake: terrier mix, 49 lbs, 1 yr old, female, HW+, owner surrender. Arabella was surrendered by her owners along with her puppies, Ax12. She is heartworm positive.
Previous Owner Comments Apr 29, 2925: Owner found her in October at Darlington Dollar General. She is good with other dogs (including small/tiny dogs) and cats. Home didn't have kids but don't foresee any reason to worry because she never meets a stranger and is super sweet. She is housebroken and may need a few reminders as owner worked and couldn't always come home in time to let her out on schedule while she was nursing pups. She slept in bed with owner or beside on her own doggie bed. Walks on leash and rides in car.
More about Arabella July 27, 2025: Arabella is a rock star! She is great with all the dogs she’s met, is good with cats, kids, great on a leash, loves to play, loves the kiddie pool, and is a volunteer favorite. Volunteers say she’s “absolutely amazing,” “wonderful,” “sweet,” and “loves everyone she meets.” “Arabella is perfect. She reads other dogs very well and knows how much space they need. She is a friend to everyone.” SUPERSTAR! She is WONDERFUL. Arabella was found as a pregnant stray and a kind person took her into their home where she eventually birthed 12 (twelve) puppies. Arabella got along great with the resident small dog and cats. She was housebroken and slept in bed with the Good Samaritan or her doggy bed in the room. Arabella and her puppies were surrendered to the shelter in late April and moved to the Bridge Facility where Arabella raised her beautiful family. All her puppies have found homes; now it’s Arabella’s turn. She’s a youngster herself, 1 year 3 months old, 47lbs, heart worm positive terrier mix. She Located in Hartsville SC. More about Betsy June 26, 2025: Brindle beauty Betsy, 1 year 9 month old 55lb heart worm negative lab/terrier mix is available for rescue or adoption! She would love to get out of her hot outside kennel at Bridge and into some cool AC. Arriving in February as a stray she’s ready to find her forever family. Betsy is a sweet, snuggly, eager to please beautiful girl. It is hard not to fall in love with her after just a short visit. She looks to her person for frequent pets and guidance and meets other doggies with the best of manners. She is getting sad due to waiting so long but perks ups quickly when she gets out with a person or doggie friend. Betsy is good on a lead and would love to be your loving companion. *NEW* Foster Update Jan 27, 2025: "We love our sweet foster boy, Bobo, and we want the absolute best for him! He's an easy foster, but we know there is more out there for him with his very own family. He loves to play with other dogs and equally loves to snuggle. He's the KING of house manners. We want him to have the family of his dreams that will take him on adventures and play with him, even if that's just in the backyard for frisbee or catch, then share all the cuddles together. Carmella - Feb 2022 Intake - sponsored for rescue pull fees
2/24/22 Intake: 49 lbs, 4 yrs old, lab mix, female, HW-, stray. This sweet lady was brought in as a stray. She is sweet and friendly. She got along with Apollo in the office fine. She did excellent during intake and walked fairly well on the leash. She is HW:Negative!!!
Foster Update Mar 23, 2023: She is crate trained and housebroken. She loves to play outside. She enjoys her toys. She doesn't bark very often at all except when she gets excited while playing or when her foster arrives home from work. She is good on leash. She rides good in the car. No cats please; she's too curious about them. While her current foster home has no other pets, Carmella does like other dogs. Laid-back dogs with spurts of playful energy that like to bask in the sun are Carmella's speed. Carmella loves attention and absolutely adores her humans. She will often choose to sit by her human to get belly rubs rather than running and playing with other dogs.

More about Cedar July 25, 2025: Meet handsome Cedar and look at that smile! He’s a 2-3 year old, 65 lb heart worm positive hound/lab that arrived in March. He spent several months living with a Good Samaritan before coming into the shelter and it was noted he’s good with dogs and kids. Cedar has met a few dogs in play groups and he’s a chill kinda guy. He will romp a bit but prefers to hang out with his doggy friends and people. His tail is always wagging and is very polite, and seems to be housebroken. He’d make a wonderful companion for someone who would like a low key friend. Located in Hartsville SC, please ask for Cedar!

6/4/24 Intake: lab mix, 11 - 25 lbs, 10 wks old, stray. Dx5 were brought in by animal control. They were found as strays off of Long Marsh Road in Darlington. They did well for intake. Dina (female), Destiny (female), Davia (female), Dana (female), Dedra (female).
Foster Update - Destiny Dec 13, 2024: She has been doing great at my house. She plays with everyone, loves everyone. She stays in my fenced yard with no digging, no climbing. She follows me around, sniffs my hands, and comes into my dogroom/sunroom on her own. She has never snapped or nipped due to fear. She is now ready for another foster to take her to the next stage. She needs a new foster who can take her the next step--leash walking. She has already been spayed.
