Adults A-D

(1+ Yrs.)

When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters.

8/5/25 Intake: lab/terrier mix, 33 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW-, stray. Andy was brought in as a stray by animal control from Andy Dr in Hartsville after being dumped at an abandoned house. He is heartworm negative.

Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: My name is Andy, and I'm ready to find my forever home. I'm a sweet, energetic, 1 year old, 34lb heart worm negative lab/terrier mix. I recently had an exciting Paws Around the Pee Dee adventure getting to explore a new world. I loved my car ride and got to walk around Hartsville, where I made lots of new friends and got to smell all the wonderful things life has to offer. I loved giving kisses and snuggling, and I got to hang out with kids! The family who took me out for the day had a hard time bringing me back to the shelter, but I'm learning new things every day and would thrive in a home that will give me plenty of love, exercise, and opportunities to sniff out new adventures. Having another doggy friend would be awesome. If you're looking for an energetic and loving companion to explore the world with, ask for me, Andy.

Field Trip Nov 1, 2025: Andy is so cute and a great size at 34lbs. He rides good in the car and walks on leash. He is energetic and playful at 1 year young but also calms nicely to rest in the shade. He loves meeting everyone and is good with kids and other dogs. He likes treats and is treat motivated for training. He aims to please his person! He's smart, curious, and sweet. He's heartworm negative too. It was hard to return him to the humane society. Go adopt him! He's ready for his family.

Arabella - URGENT DUE TO TIME AT SHELTER - trial adoption

4/24/25 Intake: terrier mix, 49 lbs, 1 yr old, female, HW+, owner surrender. Arabella was surrendered by her owners along with her puppies, Ax12. She is heartworm positive.

Previous Owner Comments Apr 29, 2925: Owner found her in October at Darlington Dollar General. She is good with other dogs (including small/tiny dogs) and cats. Home didn't have kids but don't foresee any reason to worry because she never meets a stranger and is super sweet. She is housebroken and may need a few reminders as owner worked and couldn't always come home in time to let her out on schedule while she was nursing pups. She slept in bed with owner or beside on her own doggie bed. Walks on leash and rides in car.

More about Arabella July 27, 2025: Arabella is a rock star! She is great with all the dogs she’s met, is good with cats, kids, great on a leash, loves to play, loves the kiddie pool, and is a volunteer favorite. Volunteers say she’s “absolutely amazing,” “wonderful,” “sweet,” and “loves everyone she meets.” “Arabella is perfect. She reads other dogs very well and knows how much space they need. She is a friend to everyone.” SUPERSTAR! She is WONDERFUL. Arabella was found as a pregnant stray and a kind person took her into their home where she eventually birthed 12 (twelve) puppies. Arabella got along great with the resident small dog and cats. She was housebroken and slept in bed with the Good Samaritan or her doggy bed in the room. Arabella and her puppies were surrendered to the shelter in late April and moved to the Bridge Facility where Arabella raised her beautiful family. All her puppies have found homes; now it’s Arabella’s turn. She’s a youngster herself, 1 year 3 months old, 47lbs, heart worm positive terrier mix. She Located in Hartsville SC. Please ask about this deserving, loving girl. Her videos show just how awesome she is.

Blazer

8/14/25 Intake: lab mix, 50 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW-, stray. Blazer was brought in as a stray by animal control from Field Pond Road in Darlington. He is heartworm negative.

Foster Update Sep 23, 2025: Yes, we know—every dog is described as "sweet." But with Blazer, it’s not just true—it’s his entire personality. Blazer came to us as a stray, carrying more than just scars—he had serious wounds on his back that needed urgent care. Through it all, he never stopped wagging his tail. No complaints. No fear. Just grateful brown eyes and a heart that wanted nothing more than to be loved. Even when in pain, Blazer was saying “thank you.” Now fully recovered (with some cool scars that only add to his character), Blazer is ready for his forever family. He’s just over a year old, about 50 pounds, and thinks he’s the perfect size for your lap. (He is not, but don’t tell him.) He’s the definition of eager-to-please. He came to us with some manners already and is doing great on a leash—though squirrels still test his resolve. Blazer is house-trained, crate-trained (he tucks himself in at night!), neutered, heartworm negative, and 100% treat-motivated. His temperament? In a word: chill. This gentle boy lets a 10-pound poodle share his food bowl. He’s thrilled to see our 8-year-old granddaughter but may be a bit too boisterous for toddlers—he’s got a big heart and a bigger body.

What will you get if you adopt Blazer? A soft-eyed, big baby who looks at you like you’re the center of his universe—and who’ll spend his life trying to prove it. Adopt Blazer if you’re ready for a lifetime of love, loyalty, and (yes) over-the-top sweetness.

Blythe aka Block

7/29/25 Intake: terrier mix, 44 lbs, 4 yrs old, female, HW+, stray. Block was brought in as a stray by Hartsville Police Dept. from Poole St in Hartsville. She is heartworm positive.

Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: MEET BLYTHE…a 4 year old, 57lb, heart worm positive terrier mix. This low rider is dog friendly, ADORES KIDS, and is eager for a family of her own. Blythe had a great time during her Paws Around the Pee Dee field trip with a family! Blythe’s handlers said “She is an absolutely incredible dog, like truly. She would truly do so good with kids. She wouldn't leave until all of the kids were in front of her. She is going to make someone incredibly happy.” Blythe needed to be carried near the end of her field trip, tired from all the excitement and kiddo interaction. She needs a little lift in and out of the car with those cute short legs, but once she's in, she rides like a dream! She just needs a quick run to burn off that initial excitement, then she's a good leash walker. Volunteers mention Blythe gives out great hugs, takes treats gently, and is such a sweet girl. If you’re looking for a cuddly couch potato ask for Blythe! She will make an awesome companion. Located in Hartsville SC ask for her today!

Bubba - URGENT DUE TO TIME AT SHELTER - sponsored for adoption or $150 towards rescue pull fees

5/29/25 Intake: lab/terrier mix, 48 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW-, stray. Bubba was brought in as a stray by a community member from Drakes Nest Lane in Darlington. He came in with Sissy. He is heartworm negative.

More about Bubba Sep 30, 2025: BUBBA 1 year old, 48lb heart worm negative lab/terrier mix is looking for a home!  Arriving with sister Sissy, he’s a happy, playful boy ready to romp with other doggy pals. Bubba is a affectionate, energetic pup with a big heart and a playful spirit. He’s a bit taller (and heavier) than his sister Sissy but just as full of life! Bubba would thrive with an active family…whether that means hiking, strolling through the neighborhood, playing in the yard, or splashing in a kiddie pool. (Bonus points if you have a pool or lake nearby, he loves the water!) On his Paws Around the PeeDee outing, Bubba showed just how friendly and fun-loving he is. He can be a little skittish or jumpy at times, but with patience, reassurance, and plenty of belly rubs, his confidence shines through. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s always ready for an adventure and a good cuddle after, Bubba is your guy.

Buddy

9/15/25 Intake: boxer mix, 62.5 lbs, 5.5 - 6 yrs old, male, HW+, owner surrender. Buddy was surrendered after his owner passed away. He came in with his brother Rufus. He is heartworm positive.

Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: During his Paws Around the Pee Dee adventure and a stop at Wild Heart Brewing, he was well behaved and a bit curious. He settled down nicely and did very well with food and being fed around Rufus with no sign of food aggression. Buddy does ride in the car but does try to occasionally get in the front seat and ride shot gun. A dog hammock in the back seat or a doggy seat belt should help keep Buddy in the back. Buddy enjoys playing with toys and is ready to find a home!

More about Buddy Nov 7, 2025: Buddy is a true people dog who loves attention and is eager to explore the world with you. He's the more active and confident one between himself and his brother Rufus, happy to lead the way. If you're a runner or an active hiker, Buddy is your guy, he loves to jog and seems to have an endless desire to keep going! While he has good leash manners, he sometimes pulls when he's excited or hot on the trail of a squirrel. The good news? He is very treat motivated, making continued training a fun breeze! Located in Hartsville SC, ask for Buddy (and his senior brother Rufus) today.
