Adults S-Z

(1+ Yrs.)

When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters.

Smoke - Feb 2023 Intake - sponsored for rescue pull fees

2/27/23 Intake: 1 yr old, 55 lbs, terrier mix, male, HW+, owner surrender. Smoke was an owner surrender. Smoke is a VERY happy boy. He does walk well on a leash.

Foster Update Apr 12, 2024: Don't let the adorable factor fool you – Smoke, a special 2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, has a heart that shines brighter than the snow white "blaze" that adorns his face against his magnificent gray coat. While a neurological disorder gives him a unique, happy-go-lucky gait, Smoke's spirit is anything but unsteady. He delights in galloping across the yard, chasing toys, then enjoys a cuddle session on the couch. He doesn't mind sharing his space with other dogs and often looks to them to snuggle up, too, if they'll let him. Completely housebroken and crate-trained, Smoke adapts easily to his surroundings – a perfect quality for someone seeking a low-maintenance companion. Both of his fosters work full-time, and he has no issues waiting for them to get home without having any accidents. His wobbly walk might be his signature move, but Smoke's zest for life is what truly defines him. He's a dog who thrives on playtime, be it a rousing game of fetch or a refreshing dip in the kiddie pool! This charming dog with a heart of gold is ready to steal the heart of someone special – could it be you? Imagine the joy Smoke would bring to your life with his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering loyalty. We hope someone will choose him and love him the way the volunteers and his fosters have.

Foster Update Aug 25, 2025: Meet Snookie..and I’m sure there’s even more personality in there to match her name! She is the sweetest baby girl! She loves to play with foster resident Boss and loves squeaky toys and bones (and can entertain herself). She loves to be outside in the grass and running around the yard. She sleeps well in her crate, has gotten used to using the potty outside for the most part, and she truly deserves a wonderful home! I want the best for sweet baby Snookie. More about Spot Oct 26, 2025: Woof! My name is Spot, a 1 year old 46lb heart worm negative lab, mix and I’m looking for my forever home. I'm a good boy, I promise! My handlers took me on this awesome field trip to #wildheartbrewing recently, and I got to see a million new things, smell a million new smells, and best of all, eat some grilled chicken off a fancy doggy menu. I'm telling you, I live for adventure! I'm a quick learner! If you have the treats, I'm ready to learn! I figured out pretty fast that when I put my butt on the ground, I get rewarded. Yep, I know how to SIT now! And since I'm VERY treat motivated, we can learn anything together. I really, really love attention. On my trip, I just soaked it all in, the pets, the snuggles and kisses, all of it! I also love to sit back and watch the world go by. I'm told I still have that puppy like energy, and yeah, I'm a total goofball. Leash walks are cool (I might need a little nudge in the right direction sometimes), but what I really want to do is run! My ideal home…I need a place where I can really let loose and be a goofball! If you have a backyard, I'll love you forever. Another dog in the family, built in playmate? Yes, please! If you love to run, hike, or just play, we're a perfect match. I'm ready to live life to the fullest with you! I’m living in Hartsville, SC, ask to meet me soon!

More about Tiny: We had a slow adoptions day, so Tiny got to be an office foster!  Tiny is the absolute sweetest girl; she loves to play tug of war and then get plenty of snuggles.  She is very smart and treat-motivated; she either learned, or relearned, sit in just a few minutes.  She is easy to walk on leash and friendly with absolutely everyone.  She is gentle taking treats and toys from your hand and is happiest giving big hugs!  She is good with other dogs and completely ignores the cats through the kennel doors.
