When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters.
Gloria
6/24/25 Intake: shepherd mix, 59 lbs, 3 yrs old, female, HW+ (update: already treated), stray. Gloria was brought in as a stray by a community member from W Old Camden Rd in Hartsville. She is heartworm positive.
*NEW* Foster Update Jan 26, 2026: Gloria is an exceptionally smart and gentle girl with wonderful manners. Mitchell says she’s one of the smartest dogs he knows — and it shows. She understands his morning routine perfectly, patiently waiting her turn. While she may greet him at the gate, she won’t come out until it’s her time, which really speaks to her self-control and intelligence. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and fits right in with the pack. Cats, however, are a bit too interesting for her, so a cat-free home would be best. Gloria is very, very sweet and affectionate. She loves people, but she’s polite about it — no jumping up. She walks nicely on a lead and is a pleasure to spend time with both at home and out and about. She has also already been treated for heartworms. Gloria would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a smart, kind, and well-mannered dog who truly enjoys being around people.

She asked for help, and we gladly brought him home to foster and work to find a good home for him. He has been to a few playgroups as well as an appearance at a local festival in our community. He did great with everyone he met. He loves having other dogs to play and run with. He tested very well with multiple male and female dogs at the shelter and received rave reviews from our Evaluation Team. He is the epitome of the "life is good" motto and meets each moment with enthusiasm, smiles, and tail wags. He is a young guy and still has a lot of puppy qualities about him. He loves a good treat and would be an easy boy to train. He is working on his leash skills and on jumping into the car. Once in, he rides very well out of a crate. He was very afraid when we first got him and is becoming more comfortable and confident with new experiences. He is a smart, affectionate, and happy boy who hopes that the right family will finally notice his amazing smile and his boyish charm.
