Adults L-Q

(1+ Yrs.)

When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters. When dogs are marked urgent, we could lose them at any time with little to no notice.

Lauren - URGENT DUE TO TIME AT SHELTER

5/9/24 Intake: lab mix, 41 lbs, 3 yrs old, female, HW+, stray. Lauren arrived with Layla. Both are very sweet girls. Both Heartworm positive.

Lenny - April 2023 Intake

4/4/23 Intake: lab mix, 57 lbs, 2 yrs old, male, HW+, stray. Lenny was brought in as a stray by a community member. He needs reassurance in the loud shelter environment and needs to get used to the leash. His HW test was very light but positive.

Foster Update Nov 3, 2023: LENNY wants to meet you! He's in a foster home currently, but his foster family will be traveling for the holidays, and he may have to return to an outside kennel. Yikes! We certainly don't want that, because he is adoption ready--housebroken, neutered and microchipped! Lenny is a 2-3 yr old well-mannered boy who gets along great with other dogs and is patient with children. Currently in a foster home with two school-aged kids, he lets the youngest love on him and hug him all of the time, and he loves to run zoomies in the backyard with a ball. He walks well on a leash--even the kids can walk him in the neighborhood--and really enjoys long walks in the mornings and/or evenings. During the day, he lazes around the house while his foster mom works from home, following her around and only sitting when she sits. He is loyal, lovable, and longs for a forever home.

*NEW* Foster Update May 15, 2024: Lenny loves being around his people! He would do amazing with someone that could take him everywhere with them or is home a lot. Besides that, he's such a good boy! Laid back mostly, but is a wonderful protection dog as well. He loves meeting people and other dogs. We go on daily walks around the neighborhood, and kids will come up to him and pet him and love on him, and he's so gentle! The kids have actually nicknamed him Tiger because of his stripes. He's a big ole cuddle bug! He will let you lay all over him and kiss on him and doesn't move a muscle, so he would do well in a home with children. Lenny is the perfect combination of chill and active. He could adapt to any lifestyle, because he likes laying on the couch but also loves to be outside and on walks too. He has a foster dog brother, and they get along really well and love playing together, so he would also do well in a home with other animals. He's such a gentleman and anyone would fall in love with him!

Leon

6/13/24 Intake: lab mix, 32 lbs, 1 yr old, male, HW-, stray. Leon, 1-year-old lab mix, was brought in by animal control after being found on Stanley Circle in Darlington. He has been gradually warming up to the staff. Additionally, Leon tested negative for heartworms.

Foster Update Aug 4, 2024: Leon needs some TLC. I'm learning more about him every day. He did slip his collar and got away from me, but he has stayed in my yard. He loves to play with all my dogs. He became spooked by one of my dogs and ran away, yelping with his tail between his legs. Another 1 of my dogs inadvertently smacked him in the face with her tail. He yelped and jumped back. He is very tender hearted. He will need a slow hand and another calm confident dog to help him feel safe. My greatest fear is that he will be lost by a foster or an adopter who does not know how to manage a fearful dog. He is cute as a button, weighing in right at 30 pounds.

Lucinda

7/8/24 Intake: terrier mix, 40 lbs, 1.5 yrs old, female, HW+, surrender. Lucinda and her pup Sarah came in together. They were in an unfortunate situation, and the owners could no longer care for them. Lucinda is heartworm positive. Both did well for intake.

Volunteer Input Aug 19, 2024: I stopped by the shelter during my lunch break and this timid yet trusting girl had been brought in. I could see the worry in her eyes but also the gentleness of her body language. I just wanted to hold her and tell her “We will take care of you” but it wasn’t my time yet to interject. She was brought into the med room on a leash to receive her intake vaccines and be given a name. A member of the team put his hand over her head and just stroked between her eyes. I watched her worry melt away and her smile blossom from her face. One kind human touch brought out her brightness for us to see. I fell in love with her smile and her optimism. As I welled up at the door, the team named her Lucinda - Luc (luz) meaning light and she is that. She just has that shining light to her and I hope you can see it too! We don’t know her past but you can write her future! Ask about Lucinda.

Lucy - (trial adoption 3/30/24)

2/22/24 Intake: lab mix, 35 lbs, 1 yr old, female, HW-, stray. Lucy was brought in as a stray surrender. She did great for her intake and walked great on a leash. She is such a sweetheart. Lucy is heartworm Negative. She is in foster with the young woman who found her.

Foster Update Mar 7, 2023: Lucy is a little lover! When first found, she was timid and underweight, but her confidence is growing fast. Once comfortable, her true personality comes out- spunky, curious, and attention loving! She loves wrestling with other dogs and chewing on bones. Cats are not particularly interesting to her, but one thing about Lucy is she will chase a squirrel. Lucy is crate trained and is learning basic commands like sit, come, stay, and leave it. She’s almost mastered “crate” and takes all of her meals in there. She is still working on potty training. She has greatly improved her leash skills and would love to go on walks in a quiet neighborhood (fast cars are still scary!). Lucy would do great in a home with other dogs, but also seems to enjoy her own company as well. She loves attention from humans and would lay all day for scratches. Lucy seems to do well with dogs, cats, and small children.
