When more dogs arrive than we can get out in a timely manner, our longest residents become URGENT. Often these are larger breed dogs that we adore but have simply been at the shelter too long with little to no interest from rescues, adopters, or fosters.

Pringle - URGENT DUE TO TIME AT SHELTER - sponsored for adoption or $185 towards rescue pull fees
11/2/25 Intake: lab/shepherd mix, 57.4 lbs, 2 yrs old, male, HW-, stray. Pringle was brought in as a stray by animal control from Powerline Dr in Darlington. He is heartworm negative.
More about Pringle Nov 4, 2025: PRINGLE, 2 year old 57lb heart worm negative lab mix available for rescue. He gets along nicely with other dogs and love cuddles from volunteers. He is patient and has a nice energy level. He meets other dogs very politely and is ready to play if they are. He also takes corrections very well when playing. A smaller female that was having fun running and playing with him let him know that she wasn't happy that he accidentally ran into her. He stopped and waited patiently without saying anything back. Pringle was very good when a male dog tried mounting him, simply giving a gentle reminder to not do that. Very impressive! Pringle enjoys volunteer attention, seeking some pets in between play. Pringle also walks well on a leash and is a nice medium size dog with a great personality. Pringle is neutered, up to date with vaccines, healthy, happy, and ready to find his furever home. Pringle is a handsome, well mannered boy.
Pet of the Week Jan 6, 2026: PRINGLE is this week’s #rock94.7WWBD radio Pet of The Week! Pringle is the epitome of strength in so many ways. Life has thrown him more curveballs than we expected for him, but he stays strong in his hope that we will find him a home. He loves with all his strength, and well…he may be a little strong on the leash, but it’s not anything that he can’t resolve with some regular training! This boy loves treats and is certainly trainable, not to mention lovable too. Pringle would love an active family or a home where he can get his zooms out before snuggling up right in your lap. Pringle is good with other dogs and every person he’s met. He knows how to behave in a home and enjoys traveling in the car. He’s been to public events and enjoyed every minute of the attention! Pringle has spent 2 New Years with us, and although timing has been rough on this good boy, maybe it’s because the right person is ready to meet him now! Come let him show you how great he is! Located in Hartsville SC, ask for him today! Pringle is a 2 year old 57lb heart worm negative lab mix that had been in foster, but due to an unforeseen shift in that home, he’s now back at the shelter.

Ruby aka Judy - July 2022 Intake
7/28/22 Intake: terrier mix, 56 lbs, 2 yrs old, female, HW-, owner surrender. Previously lived inside with a chihuahua. Reportedly good with kids and other dogs. No cats for her please.
Foster Update Feb 3, 2025: Ruby is an owner surrender who has been with me for a while now. She never stayed at the shelter and came home with me to foster at intake. She was an inside girl with her former family. She doesn't do well with cats, so we have had to keep her outside with us. She is a strong girl who doesn't always realize just how strong she is. I have had her at a few adoption events and she always did well. I would be careful with her around small children as she gets excited and might knock them over. She walks well on the leash and loves to go on walks. She rides well in the car out of the crate. She gets along with others but is more of a people dog rather than needing a canine buddy. She loves her toys and loves nothing more than to play fetch. She will bring it back to me but seems to enjoy showing me just how strong she is by not letting me have the toy. We remedy that by having two toys. She is a good girl, and I would love to find a better situation for her than what I can give her.

Paws Around the Pee Dee Event Oct 18, 2025: Come along on SMILEY’s Paws Around the Pee Dee Trick or Treat adventure. He did so well on his day out and is hoping someone will ask for him soon. Smiley is a 2 year old 58lb heart worm negative terrier mix that does well with other dogs and is a goofy, playful boy that likes to snuggle. Smiley rode well in the car, gently accepted his grilled chicken breast and treats, and enjoyed the quiet walk in Kalmia Gardens. Arriving in late July, Smiley is ready to get into a home. Ask for him today, Smiley is located in Hartsville SC.
More about Smiley Jan 5, 2026: Meet Smiley — Our Gentle Gentleman of the Bridge Facility. At 2.5 years young and a perfectly huggable 61 pounds, Smiley is the freckled dreamboat you’ve been waiting for. Heartworm negative, handsome as ever, and dressed in his finest tux for the occasion, he’s hoping his forever family finally sees him — the boy who has been waiting patiently for 5 long months. Staff and volunteers adore him (he’s genuinely one of the favorites), but Smiley knows that love from a real family hits differently. He’d love nothing more than to spend Valentine's Day cozied up on a couch, not in a kennel. Smiley’s résumé is as impressive as his freckles:
-
World-class car rider — calm, quiet, takes the scenic route like a pro.
-
Leash-walking legend — steady, polite, always in step.
-
Dog-friendly playmate — wiggles, bows, and happy hops included.
-
Treat taker extraordinaire — gentle enough to melt your entire heart.
And the rest? Pure gold. He’s goofy, playful, silly-smart, snuggly, and so full of love he practically glows. The kind of dog who makes ordinary days sweeter and special days unforgettable. Smiley is ready with his rose — all he needs is someone who finally reaches out and takes it. Will you accept his paw?

Smoke - Feb 2023 Intake - sponsored for rescue pull fees
2/27/23 Intake: 1 yr old, 55 lbs, terrier mix, male, HW+, owner surrender. Smoke was an owner surrender. Smoke is a VERY happy boy. He does walk well on a leash.
Foster Update Apr 12, 2024: Don't let the adorable factor fool you – Smoke, a special 2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, has a heart that shines brighter than the snow white "blaze" that adorns his face against his magnificent gray coat. While a neurological disorder gives him a unique, happy-go-lucky gait, Smoke's spirit is anything but unsteady. He delights in galloping across the yard, chasing toys, then enjoys a cuddle session on the couch. He doesn't mind sharing his space with other dogs and often looks to them to snuggle up, too, if they'll let him. Completely housebroken and crate-trained, Smoke adapts easily to his surroundings – a perfect quality for someone seeking a low-maintenance companion. Both of his fosters work full-time, and he has no issues waiting for them to get home without having any accidents. His wobbly walk might be his signature move, but Smoke's zest for life is what truly defines him. He's a dog who thrives on playtime, be it a rousing game of fetch or a refreshing dip in the kiddie pool! This charming dog with a heart of gold is ready to steal the heart of someone special – could it be you? Imagine the joy Smoke would bring to your life with his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering loyalty. We hope someone will choose him and love him the way the volunteers and his fosters have.
